THE Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress(AAC),Omoyele Sowore, have condemned the attackers of a leading opposition figure and the presidential candidate of (NDC), Peter Obi in Benue State.

Kwankwaso who reacted in his official social media account said,”I am deeply disturbed by the attack on the convoy of our presidential candidate,Peter Obi,as he travelled to Benue State.

“The deliberate mobilisation of unruly elements to block and attack his convoy and prevent him from entering Makurdi marks another dark day for our democracy,”he said.

“Authorities must remember that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of movement. This right applies even more strongly to Mr.Obi,a former governor and leading opposition figure,”Kwankwaso added.

In a similar vein, Sowore in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Tuesday, September 8, said those behind the incident were toying with fire.

Advocate Times reports that there was tension in Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road as the presidential candidate of the  NDC, Peter Obi, arrived in the state.

The incident was disclosed by Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, who shared a video on her X handle showing the blocked route.

According to Umoh, the incident occurred shortly after Obi and his entourage arrived in Benue State.

“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” she wrote.

In a separate video shared by Umoh, some individuals could be seen running after vehicles in the convoy in what she alleged was an attempt to attack the entourage.
